I was told that my furnace needed a new heat exchanger. Just labor would run thousand dollars to change it. I didn't think putting that much into a 16 year old furnace was worth it. I chose to go with a new furnace. I called around for estimates and went with the company that put in the other furnace and our air conditioner. I ordered a 100,000 BTU, 96% efficient unit. They installed said unit. That night I had to call them. The furnace wasn't running. They checked it and said it was fine. It came on. Later that night, the furnace did not come back on, house got cold. I put out space heaters to warm the house. I called the company the next day. They came out. Checked the furnace said the fan wasn't working right. He called someone and ran a jumper on the control panel, so the furnace fan would run stage two. Still the furnace wasn't heating the house. I called again and they came out and checked the furnace again and said the heat was trapped at the furnace . Did I have any vents closed? I said yes, but they have been closed for years. They said that's why the furnace isn't running. It's getting too hot and shutting off, to protect it's self. Told me to open those vents and left. That was Friday. I opened them and nothing changed. Furnace was still not heating the house up. Tuesday I called the company and they came out asked if I opened the vents I said yes. Checked the furnace to see if any codes were showing...everything was showing fine. Asked what is the thermostat set at, I said it's set at 80. (My Mother has Alzheimer's and Parkinson's and Angina and Severe Arthritis...she is comfortable at this temp) The repair guy said "Oh that's set too high. The furnace isn't made to run that hot. Turn it down." He left. Furnace still wasn't getting the house warm. I called Thursday. I said why isn't this furnace getting the house warm enough? Do I need to get a bigger furnace? Isn't 100,000 BTUs enough? That's what this furnace is suppose to be. He said I'll look it up...I thought that's funny..he ordered it for me. He came back and said " it's a 80,000 BTU" I said that's not what I ordered. He said "I changed it to an 80,000 BTU..it's good enough and we're not going to change it." and he hung up. I lost all trust in that company. My question is if this is good enough..why isn't it heating my house. There is a 6-10 degree difference between what the thermostat says and the temp in the next room. You can barely feel the fan blowing the heat out any vent, when the furnace does run. I'm looking to if anyone has any experience with heating or knows someone that can give me any advice or help.
Thanks,
Mike
