Hello from Waterford
« on: April 28, 2015, 08:52:22 PM »
I've been out of the hobby for a long while and recently purchased a shiny new 125 gallon tank from Highland Tropical. For about 15 years I had a 75 gallon Tropheus tank with some synodontis multipunctatus and zebra plecos.

I'm a few months away from fish but really would like to do a similar set up only with 5 bar cichlids, L 18 plecos and synodontis petricola this time. The one thing I really missed was having some vegetation in the Tropheus tank and I'm hopeful I can find some plant that will thrive ( survive) in a high PH.

If anyone has suggestion on good possible tank mates and people who might breed or import what I'm looking at I'd be grateful. Any suggestions on filtration and lighting more than welcome as I am well out of my depth with the advances over the last decade.

Thank you very much for having me.

Welcome and check with Mission Man and GrizzlysDad.  They both have good/great stuff. I'm sure others do too but I've had great experiences with those two gentlemen. Oh and African cichlid Keeper has some very cool fish that are very well taken care of as well. And then of course there's LanaK and the BAP and mini-auction at the monthly meetings.  I guess what I'm saying is that you're in the right place and the people here are more than willing to help out.

Welcome aboard....might I suggest as far as plants try...Wisteria, Didiplis Diandra, Swords, Vals, Cryptocoryne, Hornwort.  A lot of plants will adjust to higher PH given a chance, but will grow slow and need fertilizers.

Thank you for the welcome and I'm just blown away by all the breeders and quality fish I'm seeing. Grizzlysdad is nearby and certainly looks to have the plecos and possibly catfish I'll want when ready.

Tony (Grizzlysdad) can hook you up with some great plecos. I got an L18 as well as many others from him and the L18 is healthy and very social.

That's great to know. I had a zebra pleco years ago and he was one timid little fella.
