Hello a NEWB Family here!!!!!!!
« on: October 14, 2014, 06:31:21 PM »
This is my sons account but I thought I would drop a HELLO out to you all. Here is a little background. My son who is 14 has wanted Cichlids for years and I have always steered him away from them because I remember back in the day of having convicts, green terrors, and Jacks and how much of a pain it was and always having to feed them guppies and goldfish. Well obviously the times have changed and so has the selections of fish. So he talked me into getting a 55g tank at the begging of summer that he paid for himself and he filled it with (yellow labs, mloto ivory heads, Ice blue zebas, and a couple other breeds) sorry I dont know all the Latin names yet as I am having trouble just remembering the laymen names  ;D. Well he showed how much he loves it through out the summer by always working with it and saving his money for the rocks and equipment he wants that he did not have a hard job at trying to convince me to let him get a 125 for the basement. He was so eager to put all his money into it that the wife and I also chipped him to help him get it going. So I hope if you guys see further post you will be a little easy on us as we are newbs and only want to learn as much as we can about these fish.

This is his 55g that he has in his bedroom. Its a little stripped of his Texas holey rocks as we had to steal some for the 125g to help jump start the cycle. Filtered by 2 Marineland Penguin 400's

This is the 125g that he talked us into putting into the basement. It still needs some work but that will come in the next month or so. Filtered by 2 Marineland Penguin 350's (hope to sell or trade them) and a Fluval FX6. He hates the decor as he is a Texas holey rock lover and even wants crushed coral but like stated before that stuff will come in time.

Welcome to the forum.  Texas holey is a bit expensive but talk to Stan or Blair about it. It might be worth it to try to make it to an auction this year as well too.

Welcome!  The tanks look pretty good so far, although I would suggest more rockwork.

As Dan stated above... I do have some holey rock available.  I haven't gotten around to weighing it out, but am asking $2 per pound.  Feel free to send me a private msg if you'd like to work something out.
