Well as of tonight, all the old silicon from the BG is now scraped off. It was NOT FUN but it is clean once again. This weekend hopefully between finishing the MCA BG and my nephews 29g BG I can get the old seam silicone seals out of the big tank. Then ready to reseal new silicone about Tuesday hopefully.

No I already have 8 tubes of clear GE I* With the background covering all the tank except for the front glass and the substrate covering the lower front bead the color won't show up anyway no matter what color I went with.

Been tied up with some truck work the past couple days so haven't had much of a chance to get back on it but should be able to by tomorrow.

Got back to scraping silicone today. I think it's gonna take a bit longer than anticipated though  Spent about 2 hrs scraping away tonight and still have a ton to remove yet. Having to reach down so far into the tank is making it twice as hard as it should be.

Take your time! It's like body/paint work on a car. 90% of how well it turns out is in the prep work.

Well I have all the old silicone except for the bead along the front glass scraped out now. Should have the front bead removed by tomorrow. Won't be ready to reseal till probably Sunday though. Once I get the last front seal out then I still have to go back over again with fresh razor blades. Then going to go over it with steel wood pads, then back over with fresh razor blades a third time. Then alcohol wipe it and as long as it's good to go after that then resealing. Then I plan to let it sit and cure for at least 8-10 days before leak testing it.

I'm making sure that there is ZERO old silicone left because this job has been such a pain doing it all while balancing on a ladder upside down with the tank glass constantly pushing on my stomach/chest the very last thing I want to do is to have to redo this again

Well I think I have finally reached the top of the hill at least. All the old silicone is out and have been just going back over it with steel wool and fresh blades now. Should have no reason stopping me from resealing this weekend from the looks of it.


I also think I know why it leaked as well. There was about a 20" long section of silicone in the front pane that was VERY thin and looked like I would say that must be where it started leaking and then just ran down the trim to the corner. Why I didn't notice that upon first inspection I have no idea.
