So far this is the least amount of hunting I have ever domne in October. I have been out 5 times. But so far every hunt has been absolutely awesome. I hunted Tuesday morning for the 1st morning hunt this year and the biggest SOB I hae ever seen on my dad's property. At 5 yards, and I don't even know how many points. I had bucks running around and grunting as I was walking to my stand. I got halfway up my tree and a buck walked 5-7 yds from me going from the area of one scrape to another. He looked young but it was dark. Then I get up my tree and get into a fight with my safety belt and another buck does the same thing. This one looked big and it was dark yet so I had to use binos to get a look at him and he was HUGE!!! he walked over to the area of anotherscrape at 22yds and I sat still for a few minutes...... then pulled my bow up that was still hanging on the rope(no matter way too dark to shoot anyway).
After it got light I still heard a lot of grunting and had a spike a 6 and a 4 check the 2 scrapes. I could have shot the 6 and 4 but opted not to as now I have seen 3 bucks I'd love to take.
You guys likely think I am full of it but I promise you I am not. I have now seen 17 different bucks on my dads 23 acre piece of heaven. We are surrounded by a 100's of acres that is low and swampy. Perfect fo holding deer. And our piece is mostly high and dry with probably a total of 2-3 acres of foodplots(5) and literally 200-300 apple trees. And this is the best apple crop I have ever seen back there. The one side is part of a 1600 acre hunt club that last year went QDM and only shot 8 bucks so hopefully it only gets better, though aside from seeing 2 1/2 and older bucks more frequently, I can't imagine it getting better than this year. I have been bowhunting deer with a vengence since I was 12 and hunted multiple states and so far like I said this is the most buck sighting I have ever seen in a sit and a regular basis.
Look out, southern Ohio hear I come! I almost hat to leave my paradise, though I won't see the numbers of deer P & Y bucks are a reasonable expectation in parts of Ohio.
