i actually work for a processor during the firearm season.  its a good friend of mine that does it so he helps me and lets me use his place for free.  he has a form that he has people fill out when they drop there deer off specifying what cuts they want and how big how many per package ect. if you want hunk meat for sausage you just tell them how much you want.  he charges between 60 and 75 dollars depending on the cut.

I too always process my own.  Its a tradition around my family and friends.   I enjoy butchering deer in the garage with my dad and our friend.  Its usually only the 3 of us but we get visitors especially when we throw the burger we just ground onto the grill...... I don't get any  better than that!

Warren where in Sandusky are you hunting?  I live there!

I like to processing my own but usually get help from my brother on the cuts. I used to hunt state land by the boyscout camp but now we hunt state land north of Sandusky. My brother drives the route so I am not too sure of the town name. Just got confirmation! We will be going to our friends family farm south of Akron Ohio for the 1st week in Nov. Large buck's there! They have 100 acres all wooded! SWEEET :)

Any action lately?

I went out last night for the first time since last Saturday - saw the same couple of does I saw last time. Come on colder weather!

What kind of bow? I'll have to add it to my "do not buy" list.  :o

Can't say I've been out in a while. Spent the last couple of weekends chasing grouse, woodcock, and pheasant. Hoping to get back in a tree within the next day or two. I think I've got 1-2 steaks left from last year and then I'm 100% out of venison.  :(

Come on colder weather!
Go away cold weather - darn chilly this morning!

The deer are starting to get frisky though. I saw ~10 different deer last night, mostly does and fawns, but one small buck and another that looked decent.

Decided to try and get out this morning briefly - hard to not scare deer with the grass as frozen as it was. I did see one doe after shooting hours began, but she was on the verge of being a bit father than I'd prefer, so no shot was taken.

So far this is the least amount of hunting I have ever domne in October.  I have been out 5 times.  But so far every hunt has been absolutely awesome.  I hunted Tuesday morning for the 1st morning hunt this year and the biggest SOB I hae ever seen on my dad's property.  At 5 yards, and I don't even know how many points.  I had bucks running around and grunting as I was walking to my stand.  I got halfway up my tree and a buck walked 5-7 yds from me going from the area of one scrape to another.  He looked young but it was dark.  Then I get up my tree and get into a fight with my safety belt and another buck does the same thing.  This one looked big and it was dark yet so I had to use binos to get a look at him and he was HUGE!!! he walked over to the area of anotherscrape at 22yds and I sat still for a few minutes...... then pulled my bow up that was still hanging on the rope(no matter way too dark to shoot anyway).

After it got light I still heard a lot of grunting and had a spike a 6 and a 4 check the 2 scrapes.  I could have shot the 6 and 4 but opted not to as now I have seen 3 bucks I'd love to take.

You guys likely think I am full of it but I promise you I am not.  I have now seen 17 different bucks on my dads 23 acre piece of heaven.  We are surrounded by a 100's of acres that is low and swampy.  Perfect fo holding deer.  And our piece is mostly high and dry with probably a total of 2-3 acres of foodplots(5) and literally 200-300 apple trees.  And this is the best apple crop I have ever seen back there.  The one side is part of a 1600 acre hunt club that last year went QDM and only shot 8 bucks so hopefully it only gets better, though aside from seeing 2 1/2 and older bucks more frequently, I can't imagine it getting better than this year.  I have been bowhunting deer with a vengence since I was 12 and hunted multiple states and so far like I said this is the most buck sighting I have ever seen in a sit and a regular basis.

Look out, southern Ohio hear I come!  I almost hat to leave my paradise, though I won't see the numbers of deer P & Y bucks are a reasonable expectation in parts of Ohio.

Hey Adam did you get that bow checked out yet?  It could have been many problems and some of which may not have been the manufacturer's fault.  Just glad you didn't get hurt.  My last bow which I kept around as a spare and the string broke we a buddy of mine pulled it back in my garage.(yes when you hunt as much as me keeping a set-up spare bow is required)

Luckily the cables caught and he didn't get hurt.  I have seen several serious facial scars from strings breaking.  My mathews came untied from only 3 feet of the ground once and I climbed down and tied  it on again and continued to hunt and practice.  I made the mistake of not inspecting it.  I shot fine so I felt there was no issue.  Well the cam must have landed on a small rock and that aluminum is not real strong.  a week later I was at the shop re-placing a peep and a guy notices a sliver of my cam chipped and was slowly cutting my string.  Off came the string and a flie removed the small sliver and then a new string (FRIGGIN $110 string) luckily it was caught before it broke and I didn't get hurt.

Moral of the story, freuently inspect your equipment no matter how often you shoot.

I've found that lately as well. The less I hunt, the more I enjoy the time I do and the more I've seen. I really haven't been skunked on sightings once this year yet. Hunting a small parcel my #1 goal is to never get busted in a stand and keep the pressure low.

Sounds like you've got a heck of a nice place to hunt on. Small properties can sure be honey holes if the surrounding properties are right.

Good luck to you guys heading to OH! Be sure to post pictures if you get one!

the bow is a diamond i cant remember the model off the top of my head but i love the bow it is much better than the pse i had before. i took it to the shop and they couldnt find anything wrong with it the guy told me i probably got a twig caught in the cam or a defective arrow seeing as i was in my climber im guessing it was a defective arrow since i had to cut most of the limbs to get up in the tree.  still havent seen a buck this year but a ton of does hopeing there wont be a lot of pressure during gun season im going to try getting back up there for one more bow hunt but im not sure if thats going to happen my dam chevy broke the timeing belt frying the head so thats 600 dollar fix with me doing all the work myself  thank god i have a ford truck

Sounds like you have been struck with a streak of bad luck Adam!  Did the check the cams to see if there was any lean to them sometimes if you get a bad cam lean and added with the speed of the string it can buck off but that is rare.  I bet you cuaght something posible clothing grunt tube string etcc.. that caused it to ride off.  Any damage to the bow or are you back up and running(beside the truck issue)

Yes Ron the experiences we have had over the the years on the small parcel is a combo of it being a great parcel added with the surrounding habitat.  If it was a 23 acre piece in the middle of a section of farm fields it would only be good with certain crops and during gun season if you wanted to shoot at the running deer heading for the only cover.  but useless at times.

i shot the bow with out any problems today and the guy at the archery shop said im good to go so hopefully it was just a fluke the ford truck with 180,000 miles runs great its the chevy car with 80,000 miles on it thats broke down i should have known better than to buy a chevy.  George i know you hunt out of state a lot so i was wondering what you think about michigans hunting regulations compared to the other states i know ohio has a one buck a year rule  would you support something like that in michigan?
