Can you silicone a 3D background to an acrylic tank?

Hey everyone,

I'm planning to make a 3D background for my acrylic tank.  I will use styrofoam coated with cement, and then seal it with epoxy pond liner. In glass tanks, I know silicone would hold it to the back of the tank with no issues, but I've never seen anyone silicone a 3D background to an acrylic tank.  Does anyone have experience with doing this? Will it hold?

Yes and no, how is that for an answer as muddy as coffee lol. Silicone does not hold all that well to acrylic, it has a tendency to let go over time. With that said I did silicone my 3D background into my 240g acrylic tank, but I also have some rocks placed against the bottom "strategically" ...in other words if the rocks were not there the BG would float away. So you can do it, but you will want to make it fit snug vertically, and then place a few rocks at the bottom to help prevent it from coming off.
