Stemming from an animal cruelty investigation, authorities raided the store in April and seized more than 100 animals. Ramzi Daklallah, the now former owner, faces one charge of felony animal cruelty and dozens more for violating state pet store regulations.

The former owner of a Dearborn Heights pet shop that was raided in April because of poor conditions was placed on five years' probation and ordered to stay out of the pet business.

Ramzi Dakhlallah, former owner of the Pet Station, pleaded guilty to animal abandonment/cruelty of four to 10 animals, violating the Animals Industry Act and 17 counts for pet shop violations.

Judge Thomas E. Jackson today ordered that Dakhlallah cannot sell or transport animals for at least five years, during the time of his probation.
Prosecutors said more than 10 people complained about dead animals and inhumane conditions in the pet store.

The alleged abuse was tracked from July 31, 2009, through April, when officials raided the pet store.

"The Wayne County Animal Protection Unit spent many hours putting this case together and most importantly making sure the seized pets were given appropriate care and safe placements," Wayne County Assistant Prosecutor Maria Miller said in a statement issued about the case. "Dakhallah will no longer be able to have animals in deplorable conditions and sell sick animals to the unsuspecting public."

Dakhlallah declined to comment after the hearing.

FWIW, keep in mind that is the former owner and the business was sold and under new ownership currently.

I knew that probation was all he'd get but it still ticks me off. The penalties for animal abuse/cruelty MUST BE MADE MORE SEVERE in order to discourage future offenses.

Wrong thread Ron. The update is about Ramzei&  this thread was about Ash& Dan/Tiny
:P.

I definitely agree about stiffer penalties though

Re-read again my friend.  :)

Yes the main focus was Tiny, but a previous article I linked mentioned Ramzei so I followed it up here on purpose.  ;)

I'm just trying to bust your balls. It doesn't really matter

I have a pounding headache&  will reread it all later.

But here's my explanation...
I was thinking that this thread was about Tiny&Ash selling invasive species,  not Ramzi&  his cruelty case. I thought the cruelty case was a different thread.

Rhetorical question: What is the difference how stiff the penalties are if they are just going to get probation anyway?
