Pellets VS Flakes? Mixing Spirulina in?
« on: February 01, 2017, 08:24:34 PM »
Hi Everyone

Im running low on some food that i bought , its  bulk flake food from a local big box chain (big al's). I was thinking of ordering some higher quality food for my fish online (been looking at yourfishstuff's foods).

I was wondering, should i be looking into flakes? Pellets? Many companies sell cichlid specific foods (both pellets and flakes) and they also have spirulina flakes... should i mix the two together? Currently i have two tanks, one with neolamprologus pulcher, another with multi's.

I was thinking if i go with the pellet i will liekly get the 1.5mm diameter pellets

thoughts?

I always recommend pellets over flake as it retains more nutritional value when in the water.

How long is it left sitting in the water? When I feed, my fish eat it all within 15-30 seconds.

For me, it depends on the fish. For smaller fish, I like flakes better. A small fish can eat a large flake, but might have trouble with pellets. As they get larger, it's easier to give them a larger meal with pellets.

For tangs if they are not herbivores I usually feed frozen mysis or brine shrimp.  I generally only feed pellets and flakes to my herbivores and omnivores.
