Fish food
« on: May 11, 2012, 08:54:42 AM »
I have been using NLS for quite a while now and have been very pleased with it. I usually get it from bigalsonline at about $50 a bucket. Does anyone know of a local source with a comparable price so I would not have to pay shipping? Also, would be happy to hear of other suggestions for an alterate food. I know many members use home blends and would be interested to hear about your experiences with cost/fish color/tank clouding etc.

I prefer to get my NLS from a place on Amazon called One Way Pet

I use a pellet blend that the majority consists of NLS.

LOL...  Yeah but I heard that guy at One Way Pet can be a jerk.   :P

I rarely try to hock goods here but I'm going to this time.  I have 15 NLS 'All Purpose' forumla buckets that I'm willing to sell for $40ea (Cash) shipped to your door.  No pick up as they are currently stored in multiple Amazon warehouses across the country and will be shipped to you by Amazon.

Here is the product - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002EOJLA/ref=olp_product_details?ie=UTF8&me=&seller=

How does it differ from the Cichlid-formula? Initially I thought it was pellet size, but they are both 1mm pellets?

First, let me say sorry for hi-jacking this thread.  Marty or Ron might want to separate it into 2 threads.

How does it differ from the Cichlid-formula? Initially I thought it was pellet size, but they are both 1mm pellets?
Yes All Purpose is different than Cichlid Formula, but very similar.  Looking over the ingredients you have to get to the 5th ingredient before you see a difference.  Looking at the analysis section the only noteable difference is Cichlid Formula has 34% protein where as All Purpose has 37% protein.

Also (not trying to hijack this thread but since it is about fish food...), anyone use NLS Thera A? I've thought about getting some for my Fronts but I've heard the garlic smell is pretty strong.

I use thera A,  I don't think the garlic smell is THAT strong.
You can certainly smell it when you open the top. It's more of a raw garlic smell too.

I've used both the cichlid formula and the thera-a and never noticed a difference in smell.....I guess my smeller isn't working very well  :D . All good stuff.

NLS makes a number of different formulas / sizes.  The closest to what your asking about is Med Fish Formula - http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B001DXE2WA/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&condition=new  (FYI the picture sometimes shows Thera A but it is not Thera A - I'll get Amazon to fix it).

NLS comes in Small Fish Formula .5mm / All Purpose 1mm / Med Fish 2mm / Large Fish 3mm / Jumbo 4.5mm / XLrg Fish 7.5mm / Mega Fish 10mm as well as a number of specialized formulas for Cichlids (most popular product), Betta, Discus, Koi, Goldfish, etc.

Right now I'm feeding my Kampampa fronts the Med Fish Formula, but if I didn't get a bucket as a return I probably would just be feeding Cichlid formula or All purpose.

You can certainly smell the garlic but it is not even close to being offensive.
