Is there a way to turn small flake into large?
« on: September 11, 2016, 10:00:32 AM »
Not raising many fry I tend to have an abundance of small flake and crumbles. Some of my adult fish will not eat properly if I do not have large flakes to gove them. Does anyone know if there is a way to take small flake crumbles and constitue them into the large flat flakes?

Not sure how well this will work but took a few handfuls of crumbles, put them into blender with a lil dechlorinated water, liquified. Put parchment paper on baking sheet. Spread mixture onto sheet. Placing in oven on 150 degrees for 3-4 hours...

I've tried adding some water, putting them back together and freezing  ... didn't work well.

If I have an overabundance of small flake pieces, I just toss it on the flowers outside the door as fertilizer.

What I did was use the blender as described above. It sort or worked. The problem in the end was that the finished product was thicker than the original flake and the fish did not want to take the time to manage it. Maybe with practice it could be thinner.

How about mixing it with gelatin?  Mix it in as the gelatin is cooling and pour it into a very shallow pan and allow to set

That could work? What I did worked really well up to the point of not making it thin enough. The flakes were big but just too thick.

Rapashy is a gelatin type food, so I figured it would be worth a shot

When pouring out mixture....line a cookie sheet with plastic wrap and pour mixture out on that..to the thickness you want or pour into plastic bags barely covering bag side when sealed laying on side.
