If you are planning on being a seller at the American Cichlid Association 2016 Convention auction on Sunday, July 10th, please make sure you read the auction rules at: http://www.acaconvention2016.com/?q=node/365.

The rules for this auction are different than our normal GCAS auction rules.   Here are the key  differences:

1)   Seller letters will be assigned either in your registration package (if you are registered for the convention) or onsite on Sunday, July 10th.  You will not be able to use your regular GCAS seller numbers used in GCAS auctions
2)   There will be no color dots as we use in our GCAS auctions
3)   Limited to only cichlids and catfish
4)   40 items are allowed of which six may be of the same species or color morph
5)   Registration starts at 8a on Sunday
6)   And probably most important, the sellers’ auction split is different for sellers registered for the convention (70/30) and for non-registered sellers (50/50)

I have announced all of these changes at our regular club meetings for the last several months, but I know a lot of you sellers do not attend the club meetings, so please make sure you read the auction rules for this auction and don’t assume they are the same as a GCAS auction.   http://www.acaconvention2016.com/?q=node/365

I'm not selling but don't you think that creating a 50/50 split will discourage those who can't attend the convention, for whatever reason, from participating as sellers? Just a thought.

Thanks for posting Phil.

@JG, my impression is that the Sunday auction almost always has a ton of entries. Whether it runs to 6pm or runs to 10pm if the seller cut were better for non-participants doesn't strike me as significant. The idea is to encourage convention participation rather than limit auction participation.

Depending on the amount and quality of fish a seller would bring, it might make sense to still purchase a registration for the event even if you'll only attend Sunday.

Ron,

Thanks for the post. I couldn't have said it better.  I would still expect to have over a thousand bags for the Sunday auction.

Thinking of those whose spouses work and can't make the primary convention activities. I know that I have to move a lot of dates between my wife and I to attend most fish activities that are hosted on weekends. It might be something to consider for the future.

Jay,

The convention starts on a Thursday, and in fact a good number of people start arriving on Wednesday.  Our dry goods auction and BABES fish auction are both on Friday, not on the weekend if I understood your post correctly.

I was referring to the Sunday auction not the mid-convention auctions. I'll be there.
