Aquaponics setup v1.0
« on: June 20, 2016, 12:12:58 PM »
Somewhat related (as I will have fish in the tank)

Finally put together my first system to get the towers cycled. Right now its a closed loop with just towers and the black container, but eventually the bin will be replaced and they will drain into the the tank below.

Has anyone else ever tried something like this?

Yes, I have.   I don't know what you are planning on growing but just make sure to leave enough space above for the plants to grow out.

very nice! part of the reason I posted was to get some feedback on ideas for planting ;)

thought I would have a bit more room but wasnt able to get the lights as high as I wanted due to space restrictions so I probably wont be able to use the top 2 planters. but I am just going to trial and error and see how it goes.

do I see basil in there and what else have you had success with?

I just stopped off at a grow store looking into what it would cost to do.  I want to try and do zucchini or green beans that I can feed my plecos.  Maybe even for myself. Circle of life.  Plus it seems like a waste of water when I do my changes.  I have been taking some of it and using it on my ghost pepper plants and they are doing well. ;D

Yes, basil is the tallest plant in the picture. I've also had success with lettuce, oregano, cilantro, and parsley.
