Please read disclaimer below, before reading whole of idea..

Disclaimer....
Warning...if using for aquariums or around water or any moisture or liquid of any form.... Use another material other than the particle board included in kit. I state...I post this as an idea, suggestion, alternative for the use as a aquarium stand. As with any idea...do research and use common sense  or your own idea. I also state I don't know everything, nor do I claim I know anything about anything in the past, present nor the future. For any other concerns...above idea is to be treated as fiction or hear-say. Also stated..I have not used this..so I bare no claim as to the function or out come by using item other than what is stated by manufacturer for sole use. So, use with caution. No animals were hurt during the process of this statement...so keeping that in mind. Use something other than particle board as the shelving material. I would not want you to use below item and in doing so...cause any harm to yourself or others, or any or all of your livestock by using the particle board as shelving. So, on second thought...forget I had anything to do with this posting and that you ever saw it.  Have a nice day.

Amendment to disclaimer: I have nothing against particle board or it's manufacturers or supporters....it has it's uses. I from personal experiences, having had particle board get wet, swell and fall apart. I've learned to use solid wood when it's use will lead to it  getting wet upon. Stating this I do not have any monetary reason or will get monetary gain form any wood manufacturers or their supporters  from stating that solid wood is better than particle board....just that in this single idea, the use of solid wood would be a better material to use for shelving in this instance, at this time for aforementioned reason of purpose of use. I also state.....that the bases of the "idea" will not, nor is it implied that it has or will or is any cure of anything in the past, present or the future or possibility of said future. But if said "idea" does cure anything..it is just by chance of circumstances beyond control at present time or is it past time?

"Particleboard shelves" = "if it gets wet, a big mushy pile of sawdust" ... There is no way I would put tanks on particle board.

Yeah Particle board and water defiantly don't mix. Could be made to work though if someone wanted. Just buy a gallon of that Flex-Seal rubber coating stuff from Walmart and brush it over the shelves and that should keep the water from getting into the particle board shelving.

Oh I defiantly agree ;D I hate particle board myself. Not sure if Mike bought that or was just passing along info so just thought I'd give him an idea just in case he bought it or something.

you could probably swap out the participle board for 2 2x4's width wise on each shelf... however at that point maybe its just better to build out of wood? I guess if you are looking to save a bit of room the metal might be better.

Where do you get that sealing stuff Steve?

I have 40Bs on that rack. I actually have it used as 2 racks. No problems.

Only thing is you have to build the stand around the tank!

I have used a little bit heavier duty stand with particle board shelves for almost 3 years and have not had issues with moisture.  I do set the tanks on a styrofoam sheet though.  I did think I may have to eventually swap them out with pressure plywood but they are holding up very well.

Walmart started carrying it just recently. Think it was around $11 for a quart last I looked at it.

I wouldn't use the particle board ...I would use plywood or something better. I just put this out there for an idea.  Hopefully, everyone or anybody on here would know about particle board and the effects water has on it. I will put a disclaimer on post.

These work good until they get wet, and before time eventually makes to boards sag and split a seam.

They are good temporary solutions, or if you plan to move anytime soon.

Like others have said, ditch the particle board and get something better.  I ran 2x4's front to back for a while and that seemed way better than the particle board.

On the plus side, these racks are now some awesome shelves in my garage.
