Feeding Synodontis Petricola in a Malawi Cichlid tank
« on: March 26, 2016, 11:16:59 AM »
So I have found two obstacles for keeping Synodontis Petricola fed in my mostly Malawi tank. For the first obstacle of competitive eaters I feed the catfish during the night when the lights have been out for several hours. The more serious obstacle MAY BE that at least on of my Malawi species (Pseudo Elongatus Chewere) is sensitive to anything besides Spirulina and anything else runs the risk of bloat. This means the catfish are eating only spriulina in this tank. I was told this was not enough for their dietary needs. So I am looking for some tips on keeping the Petricola.

Try target feeding with sinking pellets.  Use a clear tube to get them to the petricolas on the bottom.

New Life Spectrum (NLS) would be my pellet of choice.

NLS is my go to along with some spirulina sinking pellets every once in a while.

Feed mine at  night after lights off as well, they are super active.

You can try something like northfin veggie formula or dainichi veggie fx. Mine only eat veggie fx and are healthy looking.
