Thanks guys. That young man is Aaron, Monsterfishkeepers is his user name here on the forum. He's very passionate about his fish and this hobby and I am all for supporting the younger generation. After all, they ARE the future of our hobby.
I enjoy helping him and his brother Nathan get cool fish!!!

Great auction for turnout and nice variety of fish. Prices were pretty high, but good for the club and sellers. I was disappointed to see how many fish were poorly bagged, seems to get worse each auction.

What did you notice was wrong?  I wasn't running as much as I usually do, but most looked okay to me.  Lots of rebags, but I assume that is from cheaper bags being made lately.  I know I had a bad batch and every one seemed to leak after 5 min.

The auction was great. Thank you to the club and members who worked to make it happen. Seemed to be less fish than last winter but I got the fish I wanted. Thank you to Greg Y, Cichlid gal, danielratti, Bob Stevens, stan and turtle cichlids. Great fish and good deals at the auction!

What did you notice was wrong?

I saw at least three bags with dead fish, many leakers, one bag with too many fish and they were already gasping at 11:30, incorrect labels, missing labels...etc.
Certainly it is on the buyer to pay attention to what they are buying, but seems pointless to allow stuff in when they will likely not make it through the day. I will admit to not knowing how the fish are checked in and there may not be enough people to really pay close attention to the incorrect labels or some of the borderline bags.

Honestly if you notice stuff like that point it out so someone working the auction.  No point of saying something now when it is after the fact.

Thanks for the feedback.  Lots of bags checked in during a short window.  Always looking for more help, see Josh if you are interested in helping at auction.  The money raised at the auction helps us pay for events and speakers.

As Dan stated, the club has bags available and can address problem bags.  The seller we be charged a rebagging fee.  More volunteers will help this process.

Also I know one thing they did at Aquatic Expereience is have those big 55 gal garbage bags with filtered water for our tanks - we might consider something like that for rebagging - I know I always forget Prime, so having something like that as a resource for rebagging might be nice.

I should have said I have had better luck in the past.
I really should start selling plants one of these days. I notticed the going price on a large crypt was about $8. At one point I had about a hundred of those in my tank. $$$! Lol

Curious, what percentage of the sale price goes to the club?

Btw I was asking about angelfish pairs on a facebook group I just joined and a couple people thought $58 for a pair of blue pearlscales was really cheap. So I guess I just have expensive taste in Angelfish and need to find a way to finance my hobby better.

Fwiw it's not a cheap hobby. The fall auction is generally a buyers auction.  Stuff you would not think would go for a lot did and stuff you would think would go for a lot didn't.  Like albino Eurekas going for almost 70 dollars.

We did have a number of people do re-bags. With the number of bags that got checked in and the number of people milling around while we were checking in bags and watching to make sure the bags stayed put,  got a little out of hand.

Yeah that would be a time where only people checking in bags can come back so there is less people in the way

Having been a part of this process from it's inception I have a suggestion for the current B.O.D.

I would suggest keeping with the program as it is right now but, after everything is in place on the tables, have a couple people go back over the tables full of fish a couple times to search for anything that might have slipped by before the bags hit the front tables. This can be done several times during the entire auction. I know the person, or persons, collecting the items from the tables see each bag but by then it's getting too late to address a potential problem bag.
