Freshwater clams

Does anyone have or has anyone heard of somewhere to get some freshwater clams and just general invertebrates (other than shrimp)?

I'm not 100% on this, but check to make sure the clams are legal. IIRC there were some species that weren't.

If you're collecting them from Michigan lakes, they likely are not.   A ban was put in place long ago because divers were decimating the populations hunting for freshwater pearls.   they were also using the shells from clams that work good for pearls, but they would take fragments of the shells and insert them in the types of clams that were.

Additionally, you would likely have a lot of trouble keeping them alive long term because they are filter feeders and most home aquariums do not have enough food material in the waters to sustain them long term.

There was actually a bag at the MCAS Christmas banquet last night. I didn't notice who donated them though.

thank you for all the input.

I have another item to bounce off of you.
I found some clams that are being sold as laboratory surplus from a college out of NC, thoughts?

and do you know if clams would need to be next day air(submerged in water) or could they survive for a few days in priority USPS

If you don't mind getting cold and wet, you could get some for free out of my parents pond
