Diet Questions for Gold Severum, Oscar and Jack Dempsey
« on: August 16, 2015, 09:00:40 AM »
I have been using Hikari Cichlid staple and New Life Spectrum Cichlid Formula as their main diet. I feed one in the morning and one in the evening. The ingredients show 32 and 34% protein in those pellets.

I also provide green peas with the skins removed twice a week, which they absolutely love, and some brine shrimp once or twice a week, which they also absolutely love.

I have tried blanched cucumber, zucchini and kale as well, but they do not really show interest in eating those just yet.

Is there something missing in this diet for those three species of fish that is obviously missing? I know they likely need more vegetables and I will continue offering vegetables.

I want to make sure that I keep my fish healthy and also bring out some of their natural colors better. When I got the Oscar it was more like "Red Oscar", but of late the colors are "more dull". The Jack Dempsey's colors are very vibrant as I'd expect and I can't really tell a difference in the Gold Severum, but I'd like to bring out the red dimples a little bit more.

You're good,  Although I prefer Southern Delight, Plecocaine & Xtreme over hikari & NLS
