Possible Levamisole After Affects
« on: August 08, 2015, 10:38:47 PM »
Thursday night I hit my tank with a dose of Levamisole HCI. My Green Terror has parasites and the Methadizne was not working. Followed instructions found on Zoaches with the dosage amount and 24 hours later i did the water change as instructed. My Blue Acara doesn't seem to be himself since the medication and the water change. I am wondering if the Levamisole hit him harder and it may take a couple days for him to get better. I am worried because the instructions say i need to do this two more times to make sure that all of the eggs are killed as well.

BTW the Green Terror ate for the first time in over 2 weeks. Wasn't much just one pellet but its a start.

Any thoughts let me know.

It's possible that it will take your Blue Acara a little while to recover.  He could also be having trouble passing any worms in his digestive tract.  Is he eating?  I've read in a few places you can try feeding mashed peas to help "move things along".

Unfortunately, it could also mean that the worm infestation is too far along in the Blue Acara and he might not make it.  I hope he does.

Even if a few fish don't handle it well, I'd still recommend the three doses.

Levamisole has several side effects associated with mood alteration and muscle conductivity. It's possible that he is just getting hit a bit harder than the other fish. I assume hes smaller than the terror?

The Blue Acara is a tiny bit smaller than the Green Terror in size but i would guess right now that the GT has gotten skinny enough that they are the same size mass wise. Now what kills me is that my little Convict female who is the smallest by far in the tank and is like 1/3 the size of the blue acara acts like nothing happened at all. She was all happy after the WC. I swear she has the dexterity of my great grandmother that lived to 104.

Its been a couple days and the Blue Acara is doing a bit better and so is the Green Terror. They aren't eating normally but they are eating some. Last night both went after some blood workslike they used to but only ate like two or three. Sounds strange but i have to say its a huge improvement.  I am not looking forward to tomorrow as i have to do another dose of levamisole and it makes me worried, but i think you are right i think the Acara my just have been more infected than i was awre. I was probably more focused on the green terror.

Second dose completed. I decided to put the GT and the Blue Acara in a hospital tank so i can watch them more closely. Make sure they are eating and etc. Only problem is that i have watched the GT push the Blue Acara around more. If things get worse i will put the blue acara back into the main tank

The fish in the main tank are doing fine. No issues at all and they seem to be fine. Everyone else is feeding just fine. I was thinking of doing a round of metro to see if that helps and peas like said above.....
