There are several different plecos which carry a common name of "Vampire".
L-007, L-029, L-240, L-241, etc. These are all black, or very dark grey, with white, cream, pale yellow, even pale pink spots that vary in size. These are all from the Leporacanthicus genus.
Then there is the "Gold Vampire" which is Leporacanthicus heterodon "Gold" (there is a lesser seen L. heterodon "Grey"). These are know as L-172 (grey) and L-172a (gold) in the Datz/Aqualog book.
Planetcatfish lists these just by the names, not an "L" number. In fact, L-172 is a totally different fish according to Planetcatfish.
I still refer to the Gold Vampire as L-172a though.
I also happen to have the Gold Vampire available....check out my sales thread for price and pics.
