Aquarium at Great Lakes Crossing??? anyone hear this?
« on: December 23, 2014, 07:33:32 PM »
I'm hearing rumors that they are building a massive Aquarium exhibit there (not just one tank)

I drove by it on the freeway and saw the outside of the mall having fish painted all over it.

Does anyone have any deatails?

Probably going to be a huge tourist attraction for all those bus tours...

Yep I read about it back in September. It's supposed to be open sometime next year http://www.freep.com/story/money/business/michigan/2014/09/22/big-aquarium-groundbreaking-set-today/16074037/

Drove by the other day. It's the side of the mall facing I-75 closer to the movie theater end. All painted up bright blue with a variety of sea creatures. I can't wait.

I believe that it's going to be something along the lines of a Ripleys aquarium.  With the tunnel where fish and other aquatic wildlife are able to swim all around and over top of you.

Yep they are supposed to have some native Michigan species as well. Found today where they are selling "pre-tickets". The pre ticket admission cost is $17.50. So normal addmission cost is probably gonna be at least $20 per person >:( I'll pay that to go see it when it's open, but at that price it'll probably only be a once per year thing for me. The pre opening date says Jan 24/25 for pre ticket buyers. So should be open to the public by Feb 1st from the sounds of it.

Sea Life out at Great Lakes Crossing opened up the other day. Anyone planning on checking it out soon? I'll probably head out in a couple weeks to check it out myself once all the crowds have thinned out a bit.

I had the same plan.  Although, if you brave the storm and go today, I heard you can meet Sponge Bob Square Pants.  lol

I agree with Blair.  It would be awesome if they had Cichlid exhibits.

BTW, on SeaWorld, they don't seem to have Cichlids, but Shedd Aquarium (in Chicago) has them in their Waters of the World exhibit.  http://www.sheddaquarium.org/plan-a-visit/Explore/Exhibits/Waters-of-the-World/

Sea Life ticket pricing strikes me as a bit pricey relative to other aquariums. I'm curious if it'll come down in time as they help pay for their initial expenses of opening and public interest possibly wanes.
