125g Craigslist find
« on: November 02, 2014, 09:15:25 PM »
Picked up a 125g complete package off of Craigslist about two weeks ago that included a stand. The stand was a light colored wood that didn't match the house's darker rustic looking wood. I decided to sand it down and stain it, something I've never done. The tank itself had a light colored oak trim, I spray painted it a dark brown. The back was painted black with plastidip.

The results are below.

Hoping to have the pool filter sand arrive this week and then I can fill this thing (already test filled it outside).

Looks good.

The stain looks great, but I have a question on the construction of the stand ?

Upon looking at the picture of the stand,  the top boards that the tank sits on are only held up by nails ?  Any stand that I have built was always supported by vertical lumber from underneath.  Am I missing something from that picture ?

It looks to me like the vertical risers sit inside the frame and provide support for the horizontal cross-bars.
Take a look at the corner risers to see what I'm looking at.

Stand looks great, jealous of you nice big tank.
What are your plans for it?
