That's the issue we are running into, new world breeders have no incentive to bringing stuff since they go too cheap. I mean the electric blue Dempseys didn't even go above 25$ for a group of 5. When normally they are 18-24$ each everyday.

There was a bag of these that went for $80 and then the other bag was around $30.

Almost ready to kick the door down  ....but stram you right outlook looks bleak ..i almost rather keep my fish than give them away at auction as many are not in the market for them( leasts not at auction)...they like those pretty fish that all look the same......

Why would there be people showing up for something that they haven't seen? The best way to influence what is in the auction is to bring what interests you and perhaps it'll help interest in those items gain momentum.

Now, if you're worried about losing some pricey fish for nothing, I have 2 thoughts:
1. With fish species whose spawns number 100+ fish, it strikes me as hard to get a high price because less than a single spawn could potentially meet demand.
2. The MCA auction rules allow for entering fish with a reserve price (minimum) for a small fee. A few bucks could help ensure that you don't let your fish sell for less than what you consider reasonable.

I've converted to only NW's over the last couple of years. I need to do a better job of posting pictures, video, etc. to kind of bring attention to some of these cool species that most African keeper's probably don't now about or haven't seen them in their full adult colors. (Beyond the normal/common LFS offerings.)

Its not a matter of one spawn covering your auction losses. There are several beautiful New Worlds that get passed up at auction because people just don't know what they are. I feel a lot of it is simply an education issue. A lot of people just don't give a damn, because they think all new worlds are giant evil fish, that require a minimum of 90gallons per fish. This of course is not true, but hey I guess people just don't like fish that come in different shapes, sizes, and attitudes.

I believe this is the norm all across the country.
We had an all fish and plant auction in Milwaukee last week, angelfish, and African cichlids dominated.
I saw bags of 5" F1 frontosa go for @$10, lemon yellows less, black calvus more, a plethora of bags with Nimbochromis, so they were basically given away for <$5 per bag.
New world cichlids are always less than 20% of total bags here, I picked up a bag of 2 young Amphilophus flaveolus for $7, and brought  a bag to the auction of half dozen Chuco intermedia fry, think it went for maybe $10.
There were also other cichlids, Geophagus, west Africans, Victorians etc.

I think you are mistaken...  How about this instead of complaining about the issues why don't you take action get out from behind your keyboard and bring some fish who cares if you loose some money on them you are contributing.  You are getting fish out to people who normally don't see them someone would be willing to try them.  You can't just sit at your computer and expect ranting on a forum will really change anything.  Maybe in January figure out what you are going to bring and start a post saying "what fish are you bringing to the auction?"  get the ball rolling yourself. It wouldn't be realistic anyhow for the club to tell people what they can and cannot bring just to make someone happy.

Its not about telling people what to bring or not to bring, I'm just sad the new worlds aren't as popular in our area. I'm just not sure how to get people into new worlds, need a plan of some sort. Maybe some sort of grow out competion or something.

Like I said get the ball rolling yourself. Don't wait for someone else to do it. Bring them someone will buy them and it will snowball.  Who cares what you make off the fish If that is your biggest concern maybe you should rethink the hobby.

I've been thinking about this and have brought a handful ideas to the table in the past. For starters, try not insulting the people who you are trying to persuade. This is a hobby with two subcategories; Old World and New World. If you want more New World, your only hopeful converts are Old World people. Insulting their tastes really does not help you. At all.

"Glass bangers" take up huge tanks because they kill each other.

Dwarf cichlids can be difficult to keep.

Geos prefer season cycles and most don't have that much color.

The New World side of the hobby is filled with hybridization, which is largely looked down upon on the Old World side.

I don't see what you think New World has to offer other than what is relatively obvious. Most New Worlds are unwise to buy in the quantities they spawn. Buying two bags of six festae is not a long term option. Buying four bags of six tropheus is. Festae spawn in huge numbers and tropheus spawn in very small numbers. Simple economic concepts can tell you where the money is.

Totally disagree. You've got guppy people, community tropical people, saltwater people, people who don't know they want a fish tank yet, etc. There are plenty of other people to convince to join the dark side. 

I do agree with some of the reasons why they aren't more popular, especially the limited quantity which can be kept in harmony together and the economics of fish that have exceptionally large spawns (we have this problem with some Old World species too - haps, etc).
