I believe this is the norm all across the country.
We had an all fish and plant auction in Milwaukee last week, angelfish, and African cichlids dominated.
I saw bags of 5" F1 frontosa go for @$10, lemon yellows less, black calvus more, a plethora of bags with Nimbochromis, so they were basically given away for <$5 per bag.
New world cichlids are always less than 20% of total bags here, I picked up a bag of 2 young Amphilophus flaveolus for $7, and brought a bag to the auction of half dozen Chuco intermedia fry, think it went for maybe $10.
There were also other cichlids, Geophagus, west Africans, Victorians etc.
