Too small for auction?
« on: February 13, 2012, 10:03:26 PM »
So i known for the auction it is said that no fish under 1" is accepted but does this hold true to Neolamprologus multifasciatus? Pretty sure they are too small regardless for this auction but for the Grand Rapids one I was hoping to sell a few bags of them.

I've seen fish go through all the auctions that are way smaller than an inch.  So does it happen - all the time.  Is it still against the clubs rules - yes.
I used to be a people person... but people ruined that for me.

Usually there is an exception to the 1" rule for dwarf cichlids. You'd want to check the specific auction rules for exact details. Sometimes it's 1/2", but more often I've seen it's 3/4".

Send a pm to gcalvus (unless he wants to answer here).  He's the auction chair for Motor City.

I don’t believe GVAC has a minimum size limit.

Having said that, generally you don’t want to sell fish that are less than a couple months old and the larger the fish the better.  Small young fish don’t survive the bagging and transport process as well as their older counterparts.  The goal is to get the most you can for the fish you are selling and in this regard, size does mater.

I was thinking 3/4" would be good for those little guys. Ill ask gcalvus too. Maybe ill just grow them out and sell them in the fall. They will be about 2 months old come the GVAC.

There is no specific rule for minimum size, but the general rule is 3/4" for dwarf and small fish.  The clubs just don't want young fish that may not survive the long days at auction.

Just like Gary said with the multi's 1/2 inch would be the smallest, we will not let pinheads go through they will
not survive the long day.
