Thanks to GrizzlysDad I now have some Julidochromis transcriptus and Cyprichromis coloratus.  Also, a big THANKS to Regalblue, Marty and Vic for their incredible help yesterday finding my N. Brichardi colony a Home!

I'm currently feeding them New Life Spectrum Optimum Flakes (ground up), Sustainable Aquatics Hatchery Diet 1-2mm sinking pellets and Blood Worms.  Are these OK or should I add/delete something?

Thanks for any help!
Tim

I'd say you're good.  I fed my Cyps & Julidos plecocaine & wet thumb prime flake.

You're welcome,  happy to help with the brichardi debacle.  ;)

there are so many brands of foods on the market that it becomes a bit hard to choose which is best....one of the things i try to encourage folks to do is no matter what species you keep it is best to research to find some of the types of food they eat in nature..mbuna graze on algae but the algae also has tiny critters living in it..we cannot always replicate exactly what is in nature so we need to make the best of it...
i like to give all of my fish a varied diet..julidochromis will get a little extra veggie and spirulina flake or bytes.all of my fish are fed Plecocaine along with a bunch of other foods ; earthworm , brineshrimp flakes and bytes and such..and we also give them regular staple flakes as well...
i think that a good varied diet of quality foods will keep you fish healthy and happy..
we keep a variety of fish and don't really concentrate on any particular group except cories and plecos...some years ago i swore that i would never keep rift lake fish again...but here i am with 5 different julis, multies.lamps etc...
it's the wife's fault....lol

Thanks for the advice.  So far (only 1 day) both the Cyps and Julies only seem to like flake food.  They don't like the pellets I have, nor seem to care for the blood worms.  Base on the replies it looks like I should look into Plecocaine ... I noticed it comes in different sizes, which size would be the best?

Thanks again ... could someone tell me (or PM) where they buy Plecocaine?  I've been searching, but am only finding it on eBay.

Also, I've been trying frozen brine shrimp and, so far, they haven't taken to it, but I'll keep on trying.

Update as of this morning, they all seem to be doing well.  Just need to make sure they're well fed.

Hi Tim, you can order it directly from the man himself, John aka lohachata. And as he already mentioned the #2 and #3 is best.
They were currently being fed the #2 Plecocaine.
Also, I feed Kensfish flake foods...a variety of types....veggie, sprulina w/garlic and paprika, earthworm.
I also feed the bits from John (lohachata)

sure...actually there are 3 people selling what they call "Plecocaine" on the internet....one guy has a website but he stole the name...another is the girl on ebay..she bought the food from the third guy and is now selling it..she says she bought hundreds of pounds of it , but she didn't..i know because i created that name about 10 years ago...lol
this club has been buying Plecocaine from me for the past couple of years and that patronage and support is greatly appreciated......
you have 3 ways to buy it...you can get it on aquabid or you could just PM me here or email me...every now and then the guys get together and do a club purchase where the prices will be a little bit lower...
for a straight order it is $6.00 per lb plus shipping....
i believe there is a list in the "group orders" section on this forum....
Plecocaine is not a "be all , end all" food..it is a high quality , high nutrition food formulated for rapid growth and optimum health for young fish and is also excellent for priming fish for breeding..
i don't want my customers to get the wrong idea about this food...it is meant to be part of a quality feeding rotation...
i have never had anybody say that their fish flat out refused to eat Plecocaine...i have had 1 or 2 say that their fish only pecked at it or would eat it only if nothing else was offered...but i know that one of those had only fed live and frozen foods before...that changes things a bit.....
my suggestion....if you are going to place an order directly with me minimum order is 1 lb...i will split that into 1/2 lb each of 2 different sizes such as #02 and #03....USPS Priority shipping would be $5.00...if you like it , buy more.i can fit about 4 lbs in a Regional Rate "A" box for about the same $5at most a buck more because you folks are close to Cleveland..if anybody has any questions please feel free to ask....always glad to help...

geeezzzz....i only meant to say that you could just get it from me.....and i write a manuscript....lol

I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong in my feeding routine, since I've tried 10 different kinds of food (including now Plecocaine) and the only food they seem to like is the NLS Freshwater Flakes.  I currently feed them once or twice a day (morning and afternoon), is that OK or should I wait longer between feedings?  BTW, I just got the Plecocaine yesterday and they don't seem to like it so far (#2).

My guess is I'm feeding them too much and that's why they're being picky ... what's the expert opinion?

Thank you!
Tim

FYI, here's video I made this morning of the 125 tank for my YouTube channel.  Hopefully the narration was accurate ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4N6bkJomO38
