Uaru fernandezyepezi
« on: April 08, 2014, 11:14:35 PM »

Uaru fernandezyepezi tank set up adjusting the PH attempting to reach 6.6 before they arrive water out the tap 7.7 got it to about 6.9 ish using some discus to cycle. Shipment delayed until mid next week so I have some time still. Hard to wait but probably a good thing. I dont expect these fish to make it to maturity but I hope to learn and make adjustments. Hoping I prepared enough to attempt to breed with in a year.....

If they make it past the original acclimation process and stress of shipping I will attempt to matain a stable PH of 5 over the course of 6 months and go from there.

There doesn't seem to be a ton of resources on keeping these successfully in the aquarium mostly horror story's so I will be playing this by ear.

1 DOA other 5 seem fine an acclimation went well.  The tank I put them in had 3 small discus the uaru are very small and I may move the discus I'd guess at the most 2".  Next few days will be interesting.

Lost the another today the smallest of the 5 left. He seemed suspect when I acclimated but then joined the group and was eating well.  Alive and looked well this morning.  Dead when I got home.  Parameters are fine 4 remaining seem well.  I may have gotten over confident when they took to eating pellets so quickly.  I will be more cautious and switch to straight high quality flake and veggies.

Have 4 left 2 are growing well and stick together  the other two are very small.  ph around 7ish these guys are so skidish its crazy hardly ever see them, have to poke around the tank to make sure there still there.  Pictures are impossible.  Thinking about moving tanks but am afraid to mess with it when I have two that seem to be stable.

Only got one left unfortunately.  I've been keeping the tank flawless but they seem to be developing hith even at a very small size strange as I'm not used to seeing it in juvie fish.  Safe to say I've failed.  I'm going to do my best to save the last remaining and get to a sexable size and maybe steal a larger of the opposite sex when they come back in season.  But update as of now is failure.
