Help ID female
« on: March 28, 2014, 08:20:33 PM »
Bought from fish store as "Blue Regal" females.  :)  Once I got them home I noticed they didn't look like the other females in the tank.  :-\  They are lighter and the biggest difference is the obvious yellow border on the dorsal fin.  What are they?  :o  Thanks!

With the way female peacocks look... I dont think there is way to tell 100% what you have.

I was hoping to get it narrowed down, mainly by the yellow border on the tip of the dorsal fin.

No way to narrow it down with out DNA tests... Sometimes females will get the yellow on the dorsal and I have even had some get some blue on there face and they were still females... Females can actually become dominant and will develop some male characteristics

I've seen that yellow border on a number of different species of peacocks and have  no suggestion on specifically what it is. It's also why peacocks are my least favorite of the various malawian flocks (others being mbuna and haps). If we were to say that they never crossbred, there'd be a few choices, but since it isn't uncommon to find crossbreeding in peacocks, I couldn't even begin to suggest what it is. I'd always best to buy fish from a reputable source.

I thought I had bought from a reputable source.  I appreciate the explanation.

I'm sorry Mr. Board Member.  I guess I was looking more for a knowledgeable answer instead of an opinion.
Yeah, I was at work & very busy. Sorry I didn't have time to type it out for you.
