Placidochromis phenochilus tank mates
« on: January 30, 2014, 12:28:41 PM »
So, I am thinking of selling the Albus group we have and getting something else with some nice color contrast to go with the Placidochromis phenochilus.

Being as the Phenos will be a nice blue... what fish would be a nice color contrast to go in the tank with them?

150 gallon tank.

First thought was some Yellow Labs.  But, they are just too common for me.

That would be a nice contrast!  Just still kind of common for me.

lol, these came to mind because i saw some really nice ones at the lfs the other day. what about a copadichromis species? i really like my trewavasae mloto likoma and chrysonotus and green face fluorescent. the chrysonotus and green face wouldnt be too much contrast since theyre bth blue but he mloto might look nice.

I'll have to look into them.  Hoping for osmething with very little blue.

The only problem there... with the peacocks, you only get one real good looking fish of a group.  I am looking for about 6-8 to add.

IF we sell the Albus.

buccochromis nototaenia is all of those. at least mine is. Buccochromis lepturus is another option gets a yellowish orange to it

Nice fish and from what I read they are not that agressive...

I have a group of 11 Phenos with the following:

13 Foss Rostratus
Trio of Lethrinops (Red Cap Chirwa)
and a a big group of Cyprichromis

I keep talking myself out of throwing in 10-15 of my yellow lab fry/juvies. I love the yellow labs until they get to about 3-4 inches..
Then I give them away or sell them as breeding groups.. but I know they are not an option for you.

Albus (Lethrinops?) If they are I would be interested in them!

I guess the problem is Africans come in a few colors- orange, yellow, blue, and red.. LOL

Maybe you need to mix in some various males with a nice group of Phenos to break up the blue.. You could add plenty of color that way..

Yes, Lethrinops Albus.  F1.

Breeding group.  Currenlty have 50 fry and let the last couple batches spit in the tank.
