Angelfish Eggs
« on: January 10, 2014, 08:17:58 AM »
I did a 10% water change.  The next day, I noticed some white spots on top of one of the Echinodorus bleheri plants.  Low and behold, my marble angelfish spawned.  I thought they would have put the eggs on the underside of the sword plant.    Yet, it was on top of the sword plant.  I'll take pictures in the coming days.  I will be surprised if any of the eggs in this batch make it, but atleast I have a pair.

Best Regards,

Andy

That's cool. Keep in mind occasionally you get two females that 'pair' or at least tolerate each other, so watch to see if any of the eggs hatch out.  You might need to pull the plant or at least that leaf and put in a tank with some methylene blue and a bubbler.  Others can chime on the amount of methlyene blue to use because I've not done it myself.  This will keep the eggs from fungusing or getting eaten.  But only if you plan to raise them right now.

It appears to be a pair.  The male has a large hump on his head.  Here is the picture

Cool.  I came across this article which seems to agree with nuchal hump = male (which is the case for many/most other cichlids, but I wasn't sure re: angelfish).

I had two males in the tank last week.  They often fought, but never hard.  One morning I went to feed them and the pinoy green male angelfish had numerous marks on him.  The male marble was aggressively attaching him, to the point of near death.  So, I seperated them.  The two marbles spawned and the pinoy green is with five smaller golds.  They are all safe now.

I hope the eggs hatch and the fry grow.
