quarantine tank

What size is generally used for a quarentine tanks? Someone mentioned to use a air stone, I wasn't sure if that was to replace a HOB. What are your recommendations for a all around quarantine tank.

Depending on how many fish, a 29 gallon or 20 high would work.  I use 20 highs or 20 longs.

I plan on using it for a sick fish or if I have a trouble maker like I do now. The person I bought fish from threw in a Marmalade cat cichlid about a 4". If I'd known better I'd say no, ifound out later  they are aggressive and territorial and not a good mix with peacocks cichlids.

I was playing on keeping the tank running but only as needed. This is me thinking out loud, I'll defer to the more experience fish keepers for advice.

The size of the fish has a big effect on what size tank would be best.  I'd say a 20H would be good for you though.

Another reason to keep it somewhat small is because of medications... the smaller the tank, the smaller the dose. The smaller the dose, the smaller the cost of the medication.    & even If you buy a big supply of meds, then they'll last you longer.

But keep in mind that they are only good for so long. Once expired the effectiveness often decreases substantially.

Thats why I am still using a 10 gallon.  A couple of my fish are now getting to the point where that would be too small for them.  I maybe to go a little bigger soon.

If you use a larger tank, like a 29g, you wouldn't need to fill it all the way.  If they arr in there because they are sick, you want it dark and quite.  Doesn't need to be really deep.
