Seeding a filter

Quick question. Since I reset up my smaller 20-29g tanks in the basement I have an empty 20g long I picked up so I just bought a brand new small HOB filter for it Wednesday. I stuck the new filter on my established 29g tank so it would get seeded from that tank. How long do you think I should leave it on that tank to get it seeded where it is ready to be put on another tank? Am I correct in thinking just a couple/few days?

Forgot to mention I put a small amount of established floss from the other filter in it but not a whole lot.

You should be good,  because of the used floss. But check parameters often, make sure to keep up on water changes & obviously do not overstock.

The Beneficial bacteria will propagate quickly...The longer you wait the more it will multiply.  Not an expert at this but a week or two and you should be good to go for the big tank...

Not necessarily....  the BB has to have something to feed off of.

It's going to go on a 20g holding tank to hold some fish in  quarantine for the big tank so it won't have more than 1-2 fish at a time in it anyway.

Since he is putting it on an established 29 gallon tank, it should seed assuming the tank already has fish in it....
