What has been your most enjoyable
« on: January 19, 2012, 08:02:00 AM »
It seems that this forum is made up, for the time being mostly of experienced fish keepers, so my question is,  what do you feel has been your most enjoyable species of cichlid to keep, and do you still have one in mind that you would like to own but have just never been able to get.

I think mine would be the True Parrot cichlid,   Hoplarchus psittacus,   always admired, never been able to get one  :'(

There's too many to pick from for me to pick only one. In general the malawian hapolochromis types are most enjoyable for me.

On an individual level, the first D. compressiceps I ever got was my most enjoyable fish. He was assertive, but not aggressive and, had stunning coloration and size. I had him for ~7+ years before he passed - he was probably 8-8.5 years old all told. Unfortunately every single D. compressiceps male I've gotten since has never been as nice as the first one was.
