From what I have read, white sand will show all the fish waste.  Unless you plan on vacuuming the tank frequently !  I have also read that black sand does the same to some extent.

I swapped both my tanks out to Quickrete all purpose sand.  It has a much broader color range and size differential and as stated above is very cheap. 50lb @ $3.95 from Home Depot. I am real happy with the look and function of this all purpose sand. The fish seem to like as well.

Again it is all up to you and your preferences. Good luck !

FWIW - I liked the black best...

I prefer the black if picking between those two choices,  but mix  white and  black together and you have a winning combination, IMO.

Is it too late to start a poll? I choose black over white but I agree the mix of the two would be my ideal.
I have about 18,000 rounds of .223 I'm  looking to get rid of, 100 rd bags. 1-4 bags $40 ea, 5-9 bags $38 ea, 10 or more bags $35 ea. I can't put this in the for sale section, its not fish related. No shipping.

How about mixing the black and white?  That us what I do for most of my tanks.  Get the best of both.

I'm for mixing it as well.  But, I would use aragonite, PFS & black blasting sand.

Blue? not ;D

I actually have mixed before. I mixed white and tan an didn't care for it. Just my taste though.

I think I'm leaning white for sure as of now.

Why not go with the Carib Sea African Chichlid substrate mix of black and white?  Pet Solutions delivers to you door for around $20 a bag.(20 lbs)  It's good stuff.

I like the black better, too, but think mixed black and white would be awesome with that background.

I would paint the blue background more of a black and grey color and use black sand myself

Of the two, I say black.

My first choice would be natural beach color sand.

Decided to go with white. I do like the morn natural look of white, plus I think it will help reflect the lighting in the tank since it is such a deep tank.
