Single front in Peacock&hap tank?

I wanted to ask this before I posted in the WTB forum. I've talked to a couple poeple about this and seems it's kind'a split on if it is okay. If you have an male peacock and hap show tank, is it okay to have a single male frontosa in the tank?

I have that it's either one or a bunch but then again that's just an opinion I personally thing having any aggressive fish is a trial and error what works for one may not work for another if the same species of fish they will all have a slightly different personality. I would say if you want it try it but at least have a backup plan in case something doesn't work out. That's just my opinion

How aggressive are fronts Chris? I know we spoke about this before, I'd like a male for my 55g P&H tank but I'd hate to buy one and have to move him again right away if he was super aggressive?

The front would get too big eventually for that tank they can get like a foot and a half but the are slow growers and they aren't very aggresive more of a mild aggressive Cichlid

Would a 6" one be fine my my 55, then move him to my 265? do fronts grow fast?

It might be ok for a short time and no the typically don't grow fast

Its defiantly not natural they occur in groups but not much of what we do is natural.  I kept a single 7 stripe in with severums and earth eaters I never had any problems. But I go rid of it at about 6" or so and it was in a 90g tank.  You just have to try it.  A front won't last long in a 55 unless you are buying as fry.  They are bulky fish.  At some point I imagine a large male front would wreck threw  an all male show tank.  They get much larger then people think and I've seen some pretty aggressive bulls.

I think you'd be much better off picking up a group to put in the 265.

See I keep going back and forth on that. I think one min doing a peacock&hap tank, and the next...maybe a front colony.Uhhhg.

IMO, they don't necessarily grow slow for the first 4"-5". After that they can be a little slower, especially if it's a female IME.

I'm not a fan of the single front, but I know lots of people do and/or have done it. The main concerns are picking good tankmates so that the front doesn't get stressed from too much activity, can compete for food, and doesn't eat his tankmates. Mbuna typically aren't good picks based on those concerns. Peacocks are slightly better. Haps are the best.

On the brightside, you at least have a larger tank to move him to if needed. That's better than a lot of people can say. Give it a shot if it makes you happy.

I have one in my 55 P & H tank, got him when he was pretty small. I'd say he has grown about 1" in 7 months....I have always wanted a Front and when I had an opportunity to get him I jumped on it...

He was only around 1" long though...I also have a leleupi and some Calvas in the same tank, sort of a P & H & T tank....The Calvas are very slow growers...

Good Luck  - you should be good with that Front in your tank for a while at least!

I've done it before but made sure the front was the biggest fish in the tank. The Haps/Peacocks really didn't mess with him at all. If he's smaller and easily bullied he's not going to last very long. In my opinion a 55 is too small but if you're going to upgrade to a larger tank you'd be in good shape for awhile.

I have a single front in my 140 gallon mixed tank .  It was too much for my peacock tank, so I gave it a try in the mix tank before getting rid of him.

It did not like it in there at all.  Just when I was about to re home him , it came around and is doing really good now .

But I am afraid it won't last long .  We will see.
