1st fish room starting in october
« on: August 30, 2013, 06:10:15 PM »
I am starting my first fish room in October I have a bunch of tanks I will obviously need a lot more as well as other things but my main question is what are you guys typically using for tips for the tanks I'm not looking to get all crazy expensive with it since I will be looking to get more tanks and some kind of pump which I have not figured out yet. I will probably be looking torward about 40 tens 15 40 breeders and I have some 90s 55s 75s I have not figured out exactly how much since I don't have exact dimensions of te room yet but I am looking to see what you guys are using for pumps or blowers and tops for the tanks

I have Multiple air pumps right now, but I will be looking to upgrade to a linear piston pump. For your set up you might need a blower. Not sure on that, others will have to chime in.

As for lids I always do glass. I will be trying some plexiglass on a couple 50 breeders since they have a center brace. Fortunately, I have a good dozen or so 10G glass lids laying around from a previous 10G rack i had. Fish room quality but the work.  :)

IME They start to bow over time. The thinner they are the easier they'll bow.

IMO the cheapest most effective route would be sheets of insulation.

I use glass tops on all my tanks and run two linear pumps.  I also run hob's on my tanks 75 gallons or bigger.  Come down and check out my room.  Not the best, but you might get some tips.

Thanks Blair.  There are some things I wish I would have taken the time to do some things differently to make it better.

you'll always have that tho.  I like How all yours are set up like display tanks. The majority of mine are sideways & setup to utilize space.

I agree with Blair, Josh's Fish room looks like a high end fish store and very well laid out.

You could spend hr's in the room and never get lost of bored.

Chris when You make the trip let me know I will go with you.

Seriously tho, his is one of the best fish rooms I've seen (and yes I've been to the Oyers, Stevens, Wet Thumb in their hey day, etc).

I want my room to look like yours...more like a massive fish showroom then a fishroom.  8)

No at all.  Just offering him to come down and check it out.  Maybe he can learn from my pitfalls.  For example should have painted my tanks first, now I am moving species around to paint some of them as time permits.  Lack of heat source, should have figured this out before expanding to almost 90+ tanks and each one is heated individually.  Better process for water changes, etc....
