Uncommon New Worlds
« on: August 15, 2013, 03:42:45 PM »
We can't let those african cichlid guys have all the fun.

I had nannacara anomala but my presumed pair didn't work and one jumped.  I do still have the hard to find but much loved pink convicts.

Any interesting or uncommon New Worlds?

I have a few uncommon Centrals..... Amphilophus flaveolus (until Vic spreads his fry around ) , Archocentrus siquia,  Amphilophus sagittae,  Amphilophus sp "Red Isletas " (pretty sure I'm the only one in Mich with them) & I still have my Turquoise Herichthys , but the Turquoise aren't as rare around here as they were before I got them. ;)

those aren't Convicts.  They're sajica.  Totally different species & genus.

Someone got some of these:  http://borstein.info/profiles/central/archsiquia.html   They do get a bit of a yellowish cast to them I think based on what one of the Borsteins said.

And someone else (neither you nor Blair IIRC) got these: http://borstein.info/profiles/central/arch_cent.html

Sajica look like this: http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/species.php?id=134   I believe there was only one bag of those?

I don't recall there being any of these: http://www.seriouslyfish.com/species/cryptoheros-nanoluteus/    These are the true 'yellow convict' but are pretty uncommon to find and harder to keep as I found out with a pair I picked up at auction.

There might have been one other archocentrus/amatitlania sp. present, but I don't recall.

This is why scientific names are best because a lot of fish are similar in color.  :)   Otherwise it's like the Dr. Seuss book..."one fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish".   No one really knows.  And then we will have to keep them with lots of algae eaters...in a 1 gallon tank.  ;)

I've got a reverse trio of these guys. I haven't seen them in a store before: Vieja Heterospilus--Very mild so far, going to try to breed them once I clear out the Africans that are in with them.

I'm interested in both those fish, nannacara anomala and pink convicts.  Can I buy some convicts from you?

Sucks you lost the Tomo fry. Those are definitely a uncommon one.

I also have a couple (2) Cichlasoma Ornatums, (11)Turquoise Herichthys, and apparently Aquidens Metae (as none of the LFS I have called or visited have them)
and last but not least (4) f2 generation of a ARSG X Virgin Red Cross Discus.
