breeders award program
« on: August 07, 2013, 02:00:12 PM »
There used to be a breeders award program I've heard is there a reason it is gone?  Could I start something like this on my own just for fun.  I've been looking at some of these programs in other clubs I think I could put together something simply and fun and do it myself.

It's not "gone" we just need to get the website up to make it easier to participate.

If you like, I can email you a form along with the rules, so you can submit spawns.  It would be no problem to do this for anyone else that's interested as well in the meantime.

How does this work, do you just submit pictures of what has spawned or do you need to bring it to the meeting(s)

Would it be fish that are only allowed in the auction(so no hybrids or peacocks)?

I think I submitted some spawns a while back but didn't hear anything and forgot about it.

Also curious like Rich about the process for verification.

Best way of verification is to bring them to a meeting or to have somebody on the BOD come by.

Only Cichlids count twards points
NO hybrids will be awarded points,

I would think that since its a breeder program they have to be fish the you breed

If it was a Picture contest then I would say yes any fish

Lol Yes they have to have been bred by you.

There's a lot more to it,  but Marty will explain all that.

I think he's more curious how you prove that YOU were the one who bred the fish. You could buy a sack of fish from the Oyers and claim them if you don't have to prove you have parents.

If somebody is going to be that petty & lie about spawning a fish,  then they really need some help. But we verify everything to the best of our abilities.

Sounds like you should join Motor City Aquarium Society too. Many of us,  including myself,  are members of both clubs.

Sorry Daniel, at this point we don't have any plans to expand into all species for our BAP.  I know that both Motor City and Greater Detroit have programs.  I also feel your pain.  There are a number of rainbows and corydoras that I've spawned that I could've gotten credit for.

Yes, fish have to be bred by you.

The fish can be verified by either having another member sign off on your form or bringing in fry to a meeting to be raffled or auctioned off.  If you're a long distance away with no members nearby, you can email me pics of the fry and parents.

Dan Lee - I have the spawns you submitted to me, I just didn't have a time to print out the certificates for you before the meeting so I could present them to you.  Do you plan to be at the Sept or Oct meetings?

Do convicts count?

I know its a "not so popular" fish, but I did have a pair of marble convicts that have spawned and Another Member has been witness to both parents and fry,and Yes They are MY FISH!!!!!
