Ruby green breeding

I'm sure a lot of you have seen this before, but this is all new to me, my ruby green male is trying to breed. It's the funniest sight ever. He's chasing the ladies around and flashing his tail. None of the ladies seem to want anything to do with him. Does this mean they will soon? They are his same size (about 2 inches) if at least the male is wanting to breed is this a good sign?

Breeding is always a good sign.  In most of my african groups the males are almost always shaking, dancing and chasing before the females are ready.  They'll come around.

Ok, I just didn't know if males were always wanting to get I on, and females sometimes never will? I guess if he's in the mood they must be happy? I'd live to watch them spawn as this is all new to me.

The females will come around. But yes, the males always want to get it on. It's in the genes. Lol.

I totally did just one shot of vodka in the tank! And guess who's holdin lol couldn't get a good pic and didnt want to harass her too much. She is not overly full, and I'm not going to have huge expectations. What do I do now? Just leave her alone? I suspect that she won't hold long since its first time.

You can do 2 thing leave her or if you have a 10 gal you can put her in there for 14 to 28 days to wait for her to spit or you can take the babies from her on the 14th day.

the female lays the eggs, has them fertilized by the male and takes them into her mouth to hold for several weeks until which time the eggs hatch and the fry are ready to be released. Typically, females hold from 2-4 weeks. During this time, the female eats very little or nothing at all. You can tell she is holding by looking at her enlarged buccal cavity (throat area) and her mostly closed mouth. The eggs hatch at around 1 week and develop into fry. At around 2 weeks, the fry have pretty much absorbed their egg sacs that provide them with nutrition during their first stages of life.

Once she's no longer holding them actively, take her out or she'll eventually eat them.

Will I have to feed them special?

IME crushed flake food works great. Depending on the size of a tank you have, sometimes I think it's better to have the fry in a breeder net until they are ~.75"-1" because it cuts down on food waste. Confining them close to the food helps them find it quicker and keeps it from getting pulled into filters before they've had a chance to consume it.
