"General Discussion" would be a good place to put anything that doesn't fit in better somewhere else.
Ever been to a forum with 30-40 different sections? Typically the site looks like a ghost town because 1/2 of them haven't had a post within a year. Then of the remaining there's only a small few that have active content and the overall feeling is that the place is dead! That's my impression anyways.
Seems like it would be better to keep fewer sections unless there's a lot of content on a particular topic that then necessitates it's own section so it's not smothering other topics. 
I can see that Ron. I just felt that sometimes a "General Discussion" area gets overwhelmed when someone creates a thread with a huge multitude of pictures. But I guess it wouldn't necessarily crowd out anything else being discussed in that forum.
My thought was more along the lines of whether someone was specifically looking for other members variety of pets, it would be a simple way to find them.
But considering your reply, I retract my suggestion and agree with your conclusion.
