trumpet snails
« on: December 18, 2011, 12:11:19 AM »
Does anyone know how long a trumpet snail can live out of water?  I have many snails if someone would like them!  How big can they get?  I only have seen little ones.  Ryan

If you're referring to the Malasian live bearing one the largest I've seen is about an inch long. I couldn't say how long they can live out of water. They multply very quickly unless they are in my African cichlid tanks, the cichlids manage to suck or pull them out of the shell quite well.

LOL

I'd guess a few hours. However, I'll also mention I've had them in substrate, moved the tanks over the course of a few days to a week, and still had snails. So I suspect if the environment is moist enough, they'll last for a while out of water.

i know from experience that they'll last months in wet substrate  (sand) -  emptied out a tank, let it sit untouched, not sure on exactly how long,  but it was months, and they were back once it was refilled and running again.
