Video Library
« on: May 07, 2013, 12:07:02 PM »
I've noticed the last couple times a noted expert has come to a meeting to make a presentation, e.g. Dan Ritter and Pete Durkin, one or more folks has requested a video recording be made of the talk and Q&A.  That request has been rejected due to poor equipment or lack of knowledge, etc.  Sometimes members cannot make such presentations and it's really not that hard to use the video function of modern pocket cameras for talks like that, is it?  It would be a great aid to individuals who have current interest in the topic but are unable to attend such talks and later to those who develop an interest in the topic as they broaden their interests in the hobby.  Not sure if the bandwidth for this forum could handle video storage but I'm sure someone with knowledge can say.
Just a suggestion to test how much interest there would be in having a club video library for this item or for others, e.g. how to strip mouthbrooding females, how to spawn certain diffiicult species, how to pronounce the scientific names of species, and more.

Thanks for considering it. ;D

Sorry, I just read another post re: Dan Ritter's talk with a similar message but not until after I had posted my suggestion.  I know of a couple folks who have interest and probably skills but those I know, me included, all live more than two hours away so don't attend meetings for that reason.  Just looking for another way to tap in and learn.

It sounds like it's being considered and there may be some issues to resolve.  I very much appreciate the effort to determine if producing videos for later viewing would be feasible.

This is certainly on the clubs wish list of things to do, but it literally comes down to who's gonna do it.  The club is only as strong as its volunteers (or in most cases voluntolds).  Right now a very small handful of people do 90% of the work with the only reward being that we are helping the hobby prosper.  I can tell you that the small handful of people that do the 90% are already taxed out.  We have a great club.  It could certainly turn into one of the best in the nation, but we need more reliable volunteers.

Geography will certainly limit certain types of participation, but not all.  If people are willing to volunteer their time to the club we can always find things for you help with regardless of your location.
I used to be a people person... but people ruined that for me.

Just an idea, but it could be as simple as organized links to individual's YouTube Channels, assuming there's enough Channels out there.  I believe that would be free and could be integrated into the existing software relatively easily.  Like I said ... just a thought.

All the best !!!
