Dan Ritter from Ohio will be our guest speaker this Friday.  He'll be giving a talk on featherfins.  If you've never kept this type of fish before, this should be an informative talk.  He also has some available for sale that he can bring up.  Here's his for sale thread:

Our meetings are held at:

Trinity Lutheran Church
45160 Van Dyke
Utica, Mi 48317
(at the corner of M59 and Van Dyke)

The meeting starts at 7:30pm!

It was a drive for me and left me running on little sleep for the auction, but I was glad to have gone. Dan gave a nice powerpoint presentation on the wide variety of feather fin species he's kept, passing on some tips and tricks for keeping them based on his experience. The meeting was around 1.5 hours or so.

I wish I would have been able to make it, as I know NOTHING about feather fins.

Might be nice if someone had video skills and could record and post on here for those of us who can't make the meetings.

I think this has come up before and one concern is that if all the meetings are recorded, why should people come?  I realize there are some who can't for various reasons, so it would be nice in those cases, but I understand that concern.

Plus, the speakers are being paid and would likely not agree to having their presentations be available for free online.

Another great point.  Still would be nice for guys like you who are a long drive away.  But, there's not always a solution that works for everyone.

To be honest, I don't really go down for the speakers, I go more for the camaraderie and shared interest networking and whatnot. A video would take away from it. But for those that consider the drive preventative, I'm sure it would be nice for the talks at least.

Videotaping is not being dismissed, but there are several things that need to happen before this could happen.  It's easy to say, I wish the club would ________________ (enter your wish here), but unless we have someone that is willing and able to do this, that's all it is.

#1  We need someone that has the equipment to do a quality job of taping the talk.  If we're going to do this, I'd like to actually be able to hear and see the presentation and not have it sound like the speaker is in a tunnel 50ft away.

#2  We need someone that knows how to upload the video.

#3  We need a place to host the video, preferably with controlled access.  This way it could be used as a member benefit when we eventually have paid memberships for the club.

There are a lot of things I'd love to see implemented with this club, it's just a matter of finding the right people to help us out.  So if you see a suggestion being made that you can help out with, please let us know!  We can always use additional help.

I think that unspoken policy should be that if someone wants the club to do something then that person should be the one that implements it for the club.   ;)
I used to be a people person... but people ruined that for me.

Just asking about taping the meetings because I love the forum, but its next to impossible to make monthly meetings due to working.  I would be willing to tape meetings, but again, can't make them.  Sorry if I am stirring things up.
