Fed Saulosi pellets
« on: April 27, 2013, 03:48:18 PM »
I was soooo tired last night I accidently fed the Saulosi pellets.  They seem to be fine for now.

Perhaps because I'm new to African cichlids, but why is this a problem?  What kind of pellets?

It depends on the fish.  I wouldn't feed a fish like Tropheus pellets because they have such a long digestive tract.

The oyers feed there tropheus NLS pellets, and a mixture of veggie flake and mixed flake.  Since I got mine from them I feed mine the same as they do.  No problems yet I guess will have to wait and see.

I have fed my tropheus NLS pellets for years with absolutely no problems.  I cannot speak for other types of pellets but NLS is perfectly digestable by tropheus and presumably other less sensitive African cichlids.  I would not worry about your Saulosi.

You will be fine Pete, I feed my saulosi pellets once a week and veggie flake the rest of time.

The original post is very vague. Whether it's a problem really depends on the content, size, and brand of the pellet. I wouldn't feed a aufwuchs-eater a primarily meat-based pellet. I also wouldn't a fish a pellet that barely fits in it's mouth. And there are some pellets that do swell much more than others.

Lesson learned: Don't feed the fish when you are tired.

I feed my Saulosi strictly NLS pellets.

The oyers feed there tropheus NLS pellets, and a mixture of veggie flake and mixed flake.  Since I got mine from them I feed mine the same as they do.  No problems yet I guess will have to wait and see.

This is true and I also am feeding mine veggie flakes and pellets.
