Frog on my window
« on: April 24, 2013, 12:32:48 AM »
Right now I have a frog on the side light window to my front door.  About 18" off the ground.  Hanging on the glass and frame.  I've never seen this behavior in Michigan.  Very common in Florida and other places but never saw it in Michigan.

Have others seen this from frogs around here?
I used to be a people person... but people ruined that for me.

Yeah, it's a tree frog.  Have feet like suction cups.

I've seen it a lot too. Bugs are drawn to the light and when they land the tree frogs just slurp them up!

We have tree frogs here in Michigan?? I did not know that. Learn something new every day.

And they are so very hard to find, but every now and then I come across them accidentally. When I was younger I kept a  eastern tiger salamander for several years. I'd only seen 2 in the wild since until just last year when moving a rock a garden outside my house and was happy to see they are still around.  :)

I've seen a couple salamanders in the Au Sable by my cabin. The locals call them "mud puppies".. I have no idea what the actual species of them are. Seen two pr three of them over the years but not very often at all.

during the summer months, the mating call of tree toads is astonishingly loud for such small creatures!  the good  life in the country!

Yes, we have Gray Tree Frogs here in MI.  The males call from high in the trees on humid summer days.  Males have a dark grey throat while the females' are white.

Make great terrarium pets and will learn to eat from your fingers.  Grow to about 2" body length.  Often come to lights to hunt for bugs attracted at night.

Can change from grey to greenish depeding on surroundings and mood.  Coloration blends extremely well on tree trunks.

They like to hang around my deck in and near the potted plants.

I always look forward to seeing the little guys in my yard every year.
