Is this fish holding eggs ? (Successful Re-Home)

This is supposed to be a male German Red Peacock. However today I noticed that it might be holding some eggs. This is all new to me, I have never had a fish hold eggs before.

Can someone please confirm that this fish is in fact holding eggs?

If so, I guess Fred is now a Frederica....  :o  :o  :o

He er she is only about 1.5 " long, I would have thought she would be too young to start breeding?

Looks like it to me, why did you think it to be male previously?

Either that or you just fed them & she has a mouthful of food.

Blair - That was my initial thoughts as well,  but it is now 3 hours later and still the same.  He um she was like this even before I feed the fish.

When I bought her, the LFS said he "thought" it was a male because she had blue showing on her face. The LFS said that is a good indicator she was a he.  I guess not...

So I will be venturing into uncharted territory.  Since I do not have anything to set up a breeding tank I will let this batch be a training session for both her and I.  The Dragon blood (dominant fish in the tank) must be the dad, he has just become more aggressive and is keeping all of the other fish away from his cave.  So 2 + 2 equals = DAD...

Since it is most likely a hybrid I would catch it, strip it, and cull the eggs because they are not desired in the hobby.
Also, IIRC isn't your tank an "all male" show tank? If so, I would not reintroduce that fish since it will just continue to cross breed with the wrong mate.

For clarification, when I said hybrid I was referring to the eggs, not the fish that is holding.

Tony - YES this is supposed to be an all MALE tank ! I do have a 2nd 55 that I will be moving her into until I can re-home her.  The LFS I got her at told me that I could bring any female back in exchange for a male.  I do not plan on keeping the fry, so I will just let her spit them out in the community tank, they should all be fish food very shorty.

Question: She is only about 1.5" long, I would have thought she was too young to start breeding...

Thanks for the confirmation....

From my experience peacocks usually breed smaller than what you would think.

Just talked with my LFS and he said bring her back in and we will get you a male...

Bruce's Pond Shop - they are my favorite LFS...Even though I live in Romeo,  80% of my fish are from Bruce's Pond Shop....

Wow, that's very nice of them to offer a trade.  Some of the places I've been to have a FINAL SALE policy.
But that's the type of value added service that gets my attention.  Bruces' is still on my hit list of LFS to visit.

You also want to make sure to get her out of there before she causes real havoc in your tank with all the males vying for her attention.

Also, if you let her spit, there's a small chance 1 or 2 hybrid fry might make it to adulthood...
