Do you have a favorite fish?
« on: March 22, 2013, 07:04:38 AM »
I always seem to pick out one fish that I like more than the others.

My Ahli would be mine right now.

I just cant get my phone to capture the color of it, either too light or too dark, etc.

But, I am sure you know what they look like in person.  I'll still have to try with the real camera.

It's hard to pick just one, so I'll tell ya all three that I think are my favorites. For some reason I just love Labidochromis (sp) Mbamba Bay. I also agree with you on the Blue Ahli I love mine, something about that white stripe down the head is just too cool looking. Also my Red Top Lawanda Peacock is just beautiful with his long fins and mix of bright yellow & blue.

My favorite would be my male La Ceiba Parachromis.
He & his mate actually have an interesting back story.

They are descendants of the original pair that were discovered by Warren Van Varrick,  Ken Davis & David Estes. (Honduras 2005)
.That first pair was gifted to Rusty Wessel. Who in turn spawned them.
Mo Devlin obtained some of the fry, grew them out & entered them into a local auction.  Lew Carbeneau then obtained the fish at that auction,  spawned them & entered the parents into the 2011 OCA Extravaganza auction.  I then won them at the 2011 Extravaganza.

So, my pair of La Ceibas have traveled all over the United States & have been kept by some of the biggest names in our hobby.

My favorite changes all the time.  Right now I would have to say it is a toss up between my Fossichromis Rostratus or Pheno.  And probably through in my Kilesa's as well.

I cant pick just one so I'am gonna choose 2 I've always wanted. 1) a solid yellow Midas cichlid and a N. Greenwoodi the black velvet cichlid.

Ken - I believe you captured the colors of your Ahi,  he looks fabulous...

I agree,  mine is in the process of coloring up right now,  each week his body gets more and more blue..  It's preatty cool seeing the tranformation.

I have a Ngara Flametail that has colored up as well,  he is looking GREAT too...

My Lwanda is at the same stage. Very preaty fish.

My Lemon Jack has colored up as well, he is looking good to.

We just got a Dragon Blood, he is now the master of the tank, he has a faint blueish tint on his upper body...

I will be adding pictures soon...

BUT my favorite fish has to be a CALVUS - any calvus I just replaced my Inkfin and Gold Calvus last night...

IMO - They are the coolest looking fish...

I also really like Calvus/Compressiceps ... he'll, we have 24 of them!

But they are still small... so haven't made it to favorite in the house status yet.

I know you guys will laugh but My fav is a Jack Demspy, it was the first cichlid I had when I started my first tank 24 years ago. I have moved on to a lot of better and nicer fish, but they will always have a spot in my heart.
