My new babies
« on: March 14, 2013, 11:05:26 PM »
So happy to have these little guys home!  ;D  Now to raise them right!  here are a few (admittedly not very good) pics of them in their new home (minus the bully,  still - you can see the fin damage (s)he has done already in one of the pics!).  I really would appreciate any input on how to handle that ornery, larger one.  I didn't expect them to have too many issues so young and I think my heart might break if I lost them after waiting and searching so long to get them! :-\

What are they and what was the issue with the big guy? Looks like you have plenty of hiding spots though. :-)
Nothing but a few empty tanks.

NWR2339, They are Pseudotropheus Saulosi.   The 'big guy' (see pic) is about twice the size of the rest and I suspect may have been responsible for some of the transit deaths, as he chases anything that gets anywhere near him.  Upon closer inspection, I feel pretty sure it is a male.
The strange thing (I feel weird saying that, given my lack of experience, I should say "the thing my research never suggested would happen") is that they do not seem to be using the hiding places.   With the exception of "big guy" they are all hanging around out front in a little 'school'.
Not what I expected... but I'll spend the next couple of days glued to the tank and evaluating every development....It's just my nature.  Especially on a new adventure - and cichlids are a new adventure for me!

They are cute lil' guys ;D

How long have they been in the tank?  Short time, right?

I find new fish take a little bit to know where to hide.

New adventures! that's the best thing about the hobby  :D   I think we all share the excitement of new fish in a tank, just can't stop watching them. As 'nwr..' noted, it appears there's plenty of hiding spots for them.  Hopefully the little guys are quick, good luck.
