Help - Can anyone identify this fish ?
« on: March 10, 2013, 09:21:08 PM »
I bought this fish as a Powder Blue Hap.  But when I Google it nothing comes up as a Powder Blue Hap.  The closest thing I could find was a Blue Hongi Hap.

Can anyone help me identify it.

It does have a black marking similar to Deep Water Hap, but the shape of the body is different than the Deep Water Hap that I have in the same tank....

Would greatly appreciate any help from anyone in the MCA.

THANKS

Is that a black line going vertically through the eye? If so victorian hippo point salmon would be my guess because of tha mark. And the little wave. Shape the dorsal fin just a guess tho

Nope, not a Hippo Point Salmon.  It doesn't have the same head shape or up turned mouth.

Yes that is a mark on his eye, similar to a Deep Water Hap...

I got if from the Aquarium Shop as a Powder Blue Hap...  Seriously that is what was on the tag.  I inquired about the coloring and he said it will look very similar in color to a Socolofi.  Since I like that color I BOUGHT HIM...

Same thing happened to me there.  I bought a pair of fish for $40 believing they had them labeled correctly. I even questioned it.

Turned out they were not the fish we wanted.  Still a sore spot for me with the Aquarium Shop.

My thought process is - if the fish caught your attention then what is the big deal.  I am not a fish snob where I will only buy something because of it's name.  If I like the fish then we are good...  anyway,  the more fish you have the better the reason you've got to expand and get more tanks...

Thats the problem... the FISH didnt catch my eye... the NAME did.

We were assured that they were what they were labeled and that they were new to the tank and hadnt gotten color yet.  I took their word for it.

I'm not a fish snob either.  But,I do expect a fish to be what it is labeled.

I think it is some type of placidchromis species, similar to a deep water hap as you mentioned because of the black mark over the eye.  Only ones I can think of maybe are below.
