I found out something today that personally I thought was just too cool. You guys remember I made that turtle tank for my nice about a 6 weeks ago? well I was a bit surprised that she is so enamored now with this turtle. She's a typical 14 yr old girl whom is normally more worried about her make up or her hair or what name brand is on her clothes, so the fact that she likes taking care of this turtle (Timmy) so much kind of surprised me.

Today I got an even bigger surprise. She asked me today when they came by the see the new tank I got if I was going to the auction next weekend (Greater Detroit Aquarium Society Winter Auction). I told her I wasn't sure because I had a lot of orders and customers waiting so it depended on how much work I got done this week. I asked her why she wanted to know and she says...."Because I want to go!"

My sister said shes been bugging her all week about taking her to the auction ;D Needless to say I thought that was pretty darn cool. So looks like I have to try to make it next weekend and I may have my 14 yr old 4'10" shadow with me 8)

Be careful, 14 years old don't understand that $$ doesn't grow on trees... Could be an expensive field trip !

Congrats!  Not easy nowadays getting the young ones away from their laptops and smart phones.

Looking forward to seeing you and your "shadow" at the auction.

Always cool to have the next generation getting interested. 

One thing I did with my ex's daughter years ago while I was severely cash strapped was in addition to paying her to help me bag my fish for auction I allowed her to sell some of her fish at the auction.  We would keep track of how much her fish sold for during the auction and I'd give her the cash immediately which she promptly spent on new fish.

She quickly learned that she could buy bags of large quantities of small angels, grow them out for 6 months, and bring the adults she didn't want back to the auction.  Usually selling 1 adult for the same as she plaid for a bag of 10 fry.  This would got her excited as she saw how she could constantly expand and also get more expensive fish.

This is just something you may want to try with her...
