« on: March 06, 2013, 10:16:12 AM »
Tragedy in The fish room. A 40 breeder burst over night and i lost 36 fish and counting UGGGGGGGGGG

It was my corey cat and pleco tank, and I had my breeding german red's 2 males and 5 females and a breeding pair of zebra obl(sp) in there while I was changing out to bigger tanks and a few misc africans all fish were 3" or smaller.

Even lost a albino alge eater, and some l # plecos

It was fine at 11:30pm and the bottom blew out some time after 11:30 and 8am.

Newest one I had, been running for months and no issues, even took the gravel and rocks out the other day since it was going to be a holding tank.

The bottom just crckedin3or4 spots.I took a picture

Ron thanks for the eye opening comment. I have one tank that has a crack and its fine. This tank cracked at the bottom and if I knew it was cracked I wouldn't use it.

I've got a 50L that got a crack across the front after I fumbled a mag7 pump onto the floor during water changes. It bounced off the floor and hit the tank, sending 3 cracks out from the point where it hit the tank. Miraculously it kept holding water, but the first thing I did was stop everything else I was doing to move the fish and empty the tank. I don't think a chipped corner is a deal breaker, but a crack anywhere is an accident waiting to happen and IMO is a tank that should never be used to hold water.

Sorry to hear about your loss Rich.  That really sucks.  Could the stand have been putting stress on the glass?  Just asking.  I always put 1/2" to 1" foam under my tanks to account for any stand imbalance or imperfections.
